Working on Godspell brought on many challenges, especially when it came to working on one particular scene from Godspell. When working with her director Ken Elston, Ragan was introduced to incorporating art pieces into blocking. Using religious artwork that is based on these biblical characters and on the gospel of Matthew into the show was a challenge. The other challenges that we faced were working in an outdoor space that isn't an amphitheater and incorporating social distancing amongst our actors on stage in a musical that is about love and community. Godspell also gives artistic liberty and with this we adapted COVID-19 into the world of Godspell.
Synopsis: The show is composed of various musical parables from The Gospel According to Matthew. Jesus Christ recruits a group of followers and teaches them various lessons through song and dance. Toward the end of the second act, the show begins to follow a more linear narrative as Jesus is betrayed by Judas and eventually crucified.
